In honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, The Robert and Beverly Lewis Family Cancer Care Center at Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center (PVHMC) is providing low-cost 3D mammograms for $50 throughout the month of October with no doctor’s orders or insurance required. Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center kicked off this initiative last weekend with its ‘Mamos and Mimosas’ event which offered mammograms, mimosas, special gifts, and health education. More than 70 women participated in the event.
Breast cancer is a devastating disease and the second most common cancer among women. According to the American Cancer Society, 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer at some point in her lifetime. Thanks to increases in early detection and more effective treatments, the breast cancer mortality rate (deaths per 1,000 diagnosed) has decreased by 41 percent since 1989. It’s vital that testing, detection, and diagnosis are available for at-risk women and provide treatment and successful health outcomes.
