CalOptima, Orange County's safety net health system for low-income households and members, partnered with Northgate Market and CalFresh to enroll eligible customers as they increased monthly benefits by 12 percent, one of the largest increases by CalFresh.
CalOptima's partnership started as food prices have increased, leaving families struggling to keep food costs low. CalOptima's CEO, Michael Hunn says, "many people who qualify for this aid simple don't know it exists." Eligible customers can also enroll in Northgate Market's Mas Fresco program that provides an extra $100 for fresh fruits and vegetables.
